Straight up rock and roll, brought to you by Band of Rascals
Release Date: October 13th, 2017
Band of Rascals, a quartet from the Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, have come out with their sophomore EP: Tempest. They’re known for hard hitting riffs and rowdy live shows, with music aimed to raise heartbeats. Southern rock fused with blues influences can be heard throughout the EP’s seven glorious songs, each a testament to good ol’ fashioned rock.
The album was produced by JUNO award winning veteran Eric Ratz, who has worked in the past with such acclaimed artists as Billy Talent and Arkells. Ratz’ expertise along with the natural composition skills of the band, proven in the past with their debut self titled EP, has culminated in overwhelmingly positive critical reception. They have even been described as “one of BC’s premier up and coming rock bands”by Canada Beats, an online publication supporting the growth and recognition of Canadian music.
Tempest features some instant classics. “Holler,” the album opener and stand-alone single, boasts rebellious lyrics and a catchy melody, an easy song to play over and over again. “Seas Coming Down” has similarly powerful guitars and blasting drums creating a powerful yet balanced sound that pops off speakers. Even the album’s slowest song, “Fell in Love With You,” a shameless love ballad, shows the band’s passion and ability to craft versatile, well rounded tunes. With a song length averaging about the radio-friendly three minute mark, the album shows promise of commercial success.
If you’re from BC seeing these guys live is a must. Having seen them several times myself, I can guarantee a rowdy, gritty rock show that will leave you thrilled. There’s an undeniable chemistry with the band mates as they move, sing, and perform with grace and style.
The boys have come out with a true tempest of sound worth paying attention to. They have proven themselves once over, dominating the often-precarious sophomore release with a consistent sound that builds on their first release while further developing their sound. For anyone keen on exploring the heights of British Columbia’s rock scene, Band of Rascals is a must listen and, as Tempest proves, they’re on a roll.
Keep an eye on our concert calendar, you won’t want to miss them if and when they come to town!
