Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez & more Canadians take over Victoria, BC..
Rifflandia is back for yet another. The festival once started as a small event back in 2007 in Victoria’s downtown but has since expanded into city-wide festival. In previous years, Rifflandia has brought in Joey Bada$$, Modest Mouse, Julian Casablancas and an array of incredibly talented artists. This year is no exception as Daniel Caesar, Jessie Reyez and Adventure Club are among the headliners. The festival kicks off from September 13th to 16th across multiple venues including Royal Athletic Park and Phillips Brewery.
What makes Rifflandia a unique festival is it’s focus on predominantly Canadian artists. Born in Oshawa, Ontario Daniel Caesar has made his mark on popular music. From collaborating with Kali Uchis to being praised by Barack Obama, Caesar’s brand of smooth and emotional R&B music has saw him explode onto the scene during 2017. Singer/songwriter Jessie Reyez who hails from the greater Toronto area won a 2018 and was a multi-nominee at the 2018 Video Music Awards. Many artists this year come from Vancouver and Victoria. Experimental hip-hop duo SO LOKI and rock band Current Swell are among the performing artists from British Columbia.
Passes are still available. The Super Pass which grants you entry into all venues is $169.50, the Park Pass gives you access to all performances at Royal Athletic Park and is $134.50. There are also V.I.P, single day and night time passes. Don’t sleep on picking up your tickets and you can view this year’s profile of the Victoria music scene by Rolling Stone Magazine here.
