The secret is out
The man who was the secret new TDE signee releases a 6-track Ep under the Top Dawg Entertainment label imprint. He adds a soulful element to the TDE camp so be sure to keep a look out for him on his label mates' hooks as he is what Ty Dolla $ign is to Taylor Gang. The Ep is like a perfectly poured whisky on the rocks. A very soulful album from SiR with only a few features including Anderson .Paak, King Mez and Masego.
'New LA' features Anderson .Paak and King Mez and seems to sample Drake's 'With You' quietly playing it in the background of the song transforming it into a soulful R&B song from a pop song. Both features rap over the sampled beat with Anderson .Paak choosing wordplay over singing. King Mez flows over this one like a laid back Frank Ocean. 'The Canvas' speaks about a beautiful woman being a work of art that can't be improved and only complimented. 'Don't Call My Phone' plays with SiR's vocals in the way that Frank Ocean plays with his frequency in 'Nikes.' SiR raps in this one barely taking a breath throughout the song proving he also has bars. 'Ooh Nah Nah' is the single from the Ep featuring Masego. SiR provides us with a slow jam for the ages sounding like a Trey Songz in his prime. 'SUGAR' is the second last song on the Ep, a song about missing your "sugar at home" and the yearn of just going home to her. In 'W$ Boi,' SiR talks about the complications of dating someone from the other side of the neighbourhood due to gangs, but the love is stronger than the fear. Looking forward to more projects from SiR and for more features on Kendrick, Schoolboy Ab-Soul, Isaiah, Jay Rock and SZA's songs. Dope debut.
